Salt Lake City, UT—The SLCC softball team (27-13, 25-10 SWAC) picked up a doubleheader sweep of Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent Western Nevada College (WNC) (9-32, 6-26 SWAC) on Saturday at Bruin Field. With Saturday's pair of wins, SLCC completed a 4-0 weekend series sweep of WNC.
The Bruins defeated the Wildcats 11-3 by run rule in six innings for the game one victory and rallied to defeat WNC 4-3 in the day's second contest. SLCC won the regular season series with WNC 6-1 and is currently on a five game winning streak.
Game 1 Stats: Freshman infielder Taylor Tann (Syracuse, UT) was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate in game one with a two-run home run and eight runs batted in (RBI). The Syracuse High School graduate finished the weekend series with 16 RBI including six in game one on Friday.
Freshman catcher KyRae Kogianes (Riverton, UT) was 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, a walk and four runs scored and freshman infielder Bailie Nelson (Las Vegas, NV) was 1-for-3 with a walk and one RBI.
Freshman catcher Riana Splinter (Las Vegas, NV) was 0-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored as the designated hitter. Freshman pitcher Paige Reimann (7-2) (South Jordan, UT) picked up the win with three strikeouts, four walks, six hits and three runs, all earned, allowed in a complete game effort.
Salt Lake out-hit Western Nevada 11-6 with the Wildcats committing four fielding errors to one for the Bruins.
Game 2 Stats: Riana Splinter was 0-for-4 at the plate but drove in two game-winning runs in the bottom of the seventh frame on an error by the WNC shortstop as Salt Lake trailed 3-2 prior to her at-bat.
Freshman outfielder Megan Reed (Pocatello, ID) was 2-for-2 with two walks and scored the game tying run in the seventh inning. Kogianes was 1-for-3 with a home run and freshman pitcher/outfielder Chelsa Baca (Las Vegas, NV) was 2-for-2 with a walk and a double.
Freshman pitcher Courtney Platt (Riverton, UT) earned the win with two strikeouts and five hits allowed in three scoreless innings from the circle. Freshman pitcher Baylee Reeves (Brigham City, UT) yielded six hits and three runs (two earned) with no strikeouts or walks in a four inning start.
The Wildcats out-hit the Bruins 11-6 with SLCC committing three fielding errors to one for WNC.
Next up for Head Coach Cyndee Bennett and the Bruins is a road trip to Twin Falls, ID for a four game series with rival College of Southern Idaho (CSI) (34-12, 28-8 SWAC) beginning on Friday, Apr. 11. First pitch for game one on Friday is slated for 1 p.m. with game two beginning 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first contest.
