St. George, UT- The second seeded SLCC Bruins softball team won their first two games at the NJCAA National tournament.  The Bruins are now 57-7 overall.
 
To open the tournament Salt Lake dismantled 15th seed Western Nebraska 20-1.  Salt Lake connected on 18 hits to plate the 20 runs in five innings.  Tanisha Anderson was 3 for 4 with five RBI and a three run home run.  Meagan Neilson went 2 for 3 with three RBI and Savannah Webster was 3 for 4 with a triple.  Ariel Zimmerman got the win allowing one hit with four strikeouts. 
 
Salt Lake advanced to face Howard College in the night cap.  The Bruins jumped to an early 7-0 lead but a five run fifth by Howard closed the gap.  Salt Lake would answer with two runs in the sixth.  MaCauley Flint and Ariel Zimmerman combined to strike out nine batters with Zimmerman collecting six k's over four innings.  Flint got the win with Zimmerman picking up the save.  Lauren Miller was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and a two run home run.  Webster was 2 for 2 with two RBI and a two run home run.
 
The Bruins advance to play Blinn College at 1 pm in St. George, UT.  The winner advances to the semi-finals at 7:00 pm.
