Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah- (Thursday, January 23, 2025)- No. 18 Salt Lake Women's Basketball (16-4, 5-1) were poised down the stretch, as the Bruins upset No. 11 Southern Idaho 56-53.
CSI (17-4, 5-1) led by five at the end of the first quarter. To end the second quarter, SLCC's Ines Babaya hit a three-pointer to give the Bruins a 30-27 halftime lead. Babaya went a perfect 6-6 from the field recording a game-high 14 points.
With 1:27 left in the fourth quarter CSI led Salt Lake 50-49 with Laura Di Stefano at the line for the Bruins. Di Stefano made the first free-throw and missed the second. Salt Lake's Jeanne Rodriguez rebounded her teammate's miss and made a clutch layup on the extra possession to put the Bruins up 52-50.
Salt Lake then forced a huge turnover on the Golden Eagles inbound pass and made enough free throws down the stretch to stave off CSI.
Rodriquez recorded 10 points for Salt Lake. Freshman Ahnica Russell-Brown added 8 points and four steals and freshman Tahys Da Silva supplied 7 points, 5 rebounds, and five assists for the Bruins.
Samara Morrow and Kennedy Gillette led CSI in the loss with 12 points and 11 points respectively.
