Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (Tuesday, November 28, 2023) – Salt Lake overcame a frigid second quarter to post a 66-56 win over Western Wyoming on Tuesday night. The Bruins improved to 5-4 with the win.
Reigning Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Week Heaven Samayoa-Mathis played all 40 minutes for the third time this season. Samayoa-Mathis scored a team-high 16 points, pulled down eight rebounds, and dished out four assists. Ines Gnahore made her sixth start of the year, finishing with 15 points, seven rebounds, and four steals in the win. Jeanne Rodriguez came off the bench to make 7-of-9 shots on her way to 14 points and nine rebounds.
SLCC led 31-10 after the first quarter but a 3-for-15 shooting performance in the second period allowed Western Wyoming to keep it close. The Mustangs never led in the game.
Salt Lake hosts the SLCC December Classic Basketball Tournament on December 1 and 2. USU Eastern, Central Wyoming, and an All-Star team, along with the Bruins, will make up the tournament field.
