SLCC Women's Basketball powers to big win over Arizona Western

Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 22, 2021) - The Salt Lake Community College women's basketball program opened the 2021 season the way it ended the 2019-20 season - with an impressive win.

SLCC rolled to an 86-30 win over Arizona Western College in its season opener, never trailing in the impressive win. The Bruins led 15-7 at the end of the first quarter, leading 37-18 in a win that pushed them to 1-0 to open the season.

Salt Lake was strong defensively throughout the game, holding Arizona Western to just 22 percent shooting. While the Bruins started sluggishly on offense themselves, they caught fire in the second-half and shot 54.3 percent from the field (19-of-35). SLCC forced 21 AWC turnovers.

Awa Sidibe, the reigning Region 18 Player-of-the-Year, had a team-high 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting for Salt Lake. Naelle Bernard also posted 19 points, while Riley Frith scored 11 points. 

SLCC will face off against Northwest College to conclude the weekend series on Saturday. The game will tip at 1:00 p.m. inside the Lifetime Activities Center.
