SLCC Volleyball hires former Bruins coach Shay Goulding to coaching staff

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 3, 2020) – The nationally-acclaimed Salt Lake Community College volleyball program has welcomed back a nationally-acclaimed volleyball name for the 2020 season.

Tuesday, SLCC coach Sue Dulaney announced that former Bruins and BYU head coach Shay Goulding has agreed to join Salt Lake's coaching staff for the 2020 season. In her role, Goulding will assist with recruiting and player development.

Dulaney said she is excited to hire a coach with the caliber of Goulding to join the program.

"Shay is an outstanding, high-performance coach and has a wealth of knowledge in many areas of the game," she said. "She is passionate about personal growth and thrives on seeing others increase confidence and achieve their dreams. Shay will have an immediate effect on the program and we cannot wait to get started with her."

A head coach with the Bruins from 2003-2007, Goulding led Salt Lake to a national runner-up appearance in 2004 and a third-place finish with a 44-2 record in 2007. She left the Bruins to take the head coaching position at BYU, where she compiled a 43-42 record from 2008-2011.

Goulding said she is excited for the opportunity to assist Dulaney in leading the Bruins to even-greater heights.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to be a Bruin again," she said. "SLCC has a special place in my heart and I look forward to partnering with Sue Dulaney to make sure each athlete reaches their potential both on-and-off the court."

Kevin Dustin, SLCC's Director of Athletics & Recreation, said Goulding's hire is a strong addition to an already-impressive coaching staff, under the direction of Dulaney.

"We are thrilled to have Shay join our program," he said "Shay comes to us with experience at the highest levels of collegiate volleyball and a significant recruiting network.  In addition, she brings some additional relevant skills to the department, which will benefit all of our student-athletes.  We are excited to have Shay join Sue and the rest of our staff in providing our volleyball student-athletes with top-level coaching while also serving as great role models."

Goulding replaces former Bruins assistant coach Scott Keister, who left to become the head coach at Northwest College after the 2019 season. The Bruins finished the 2019 season at 23-11, going 5-5 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
