Fort Meyers, Florida- Day 1 of the Battle at the Beach Tournament featured back to back strong performances by No. 7 Salt Lake Volleyball as the Bruins defeated Polk State College in straight sets and upset the tournament hosts No. 2 Florida Southwestern in four sets. 

The Bruins never trailed in the three-set win over Polk State. Setter Swayzee Mason led Salt Lake with 23 assists and Angelina Murase recorded nine kills. 25-17, 25-12, 25-11. 

Salt Lake lost the first set 25-16 to Florida Southwestern. Then the Bruins turned things around and won the following sets 26-24, 25-19, and 25-23. 

Mason had 30 assists and Murase had a game-high 19 kills. Rylee Parkinson added seven kills. Lana Hollway and Mason each tallied seven kills. Salt Lake hit .309 as a team and Florida Southwestern hit .192. The Bruins had 15 kills in the second set and hit .387 in that set.
