Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 6, 2020) – The Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team did three things Thursday – downed in-state rival USU Eastern, ensured they wouldn't start a losing streak and also reclaimed solo lead in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
The Bruins earned a close 60-57 win over USU Eastern, rebounding from a disappointing loss last weekend at Southern Idaho. The win boosts SLCC's overall record to 18-5 overall and 7-1 in Scenic West play.
In a back-and-forth game that allowed the Bruins to reclaim the Scenic West lead, Salt Lake jumped out to a 13-7 lead at the end of the first quarter before allowing USU Eastern to score 26 points in the second quarter to take a 33-32 halftime lead. Salt Lake's defense clamped down on USU Eastern in the third quarter, holding the Eagles to just 2-of-16 shooting in the quarter.
SLCC's defense overall held USU Eastern to just 31.1 percent shooting for the game, making just 6-of-22 three-point shots.
Fatoumata Jallow led the Bruins with 15 points, with
Awa Sidibe,
Hazel Fui and
Ashley Scoggin all contributing 9 points apiece.
Salt Lake will host Colorado Northwestern at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
