Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 20, 2020) - The streak of Scenic West Athletic Conference regular-season championships will stay alive another year for the Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team.
The Bruins clinched another league title on Thursday, downing in-state rival Snow College by a margin of 67-54. SLCC's overall record grows to 20-6 and 9-2 in league play with the win. This is the seventh-consecutive year the Bruins have won a Scenic West title and its the first regular-season title under first-year head coach
Marcilina Grayer.
Grayer said the win was a sign of her team's toughness.
"It's always really tough to get a win at Snow," she said. "We are extremely proud of the girls for battling through and showing toughness down the stretch."
Salt Lake trailed early, falling behind 19-15, before coming back to take a 33-29 lead at halftime. Defense made the difference for the Bruins, with SLCC holding Snow to just 25-percent shooting in the third quarter (3-of-12). The Bruins also established themselves consistently in the paint throughout the second half, holding a 44-20 advantage in points-in-the-paint. SLCC also scored 21 points off Snow's turnovers.
Awa Sidibe led the Bruins with 17 points, while
Leichan Williams scored 13 points.
Cameron Mooney posted 12 points off-the-bench.Â
Salt Lake clinched the top seed in next week's Region 18 tourney with the win, looking to defends its streak of three-straight Region 18 championships. SLCC will close the regular season Saturday at USU Eastern. The game will be played at 1:00 p.m.Â
