TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 14, 2020) - The Salt Lake Community College women's basketball had substantial upheaval over the offseason, yet the Bruins are still sitting at the top of the heap of the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings with two weeks remaining in the season.
Salt Lake has a 1.5-game lead with two weeks remaining in the season, with 'Sophomore Day' coming this Saturday for the Bruins. SLCCÂ will host the College of Southern Idaho in the game, with the program's only league loss coming against CSI on the road just two weeks ago.
Bruins coach
Marcilina Grayer said this weekend's game is a critical contest for her program.
"Our focus has been taking it one game at a time and getting better as a team everyday," she said. "With playing each other three times, we must be focused, have attention to detail, and be able to execute our offensive and defensive game plan. As long as we are playing our best basketball at the end of February, I think we give ourselves a good chance."
Salt Lake downed Southern Idaho in their first matchup inside the Lifetime Activities Center on January 9, 67-55, with a 66-52 loss just two weeks ago in Twin Falls. CSI is three games behind SLCC in the league standings, sitting at 5-4. The Golden Eagles have won three-straight SWAC games entering a Thursday contest with Colorado Northwestern.
Grayer said the Bruins are eager for a rematch with the Golden Eagles after their loss in Twin Falls.
"We took that lost and were able to re-evaluate what didn't go well and where we can fine-tune some things as a team and coaching staff," she said. "Our focus for the week is no different; we want to put together 40 minutes of great basketball and play together and with effort."
Saturday's game against Southern Idaho will begin at 1:00 p.m. inside the Lifetime Activities Center. Salt Lake will travel for next weekend's games against Snow College and USU Eastern.Â
