No. 23 SLCC Women's Basketball takes off for Scenic West road game

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 29, 2020) - The No. 23 Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team has one of the nation's longest active winning streaks, boasting 15-consecutive victories that date back to November.

While the Bruins have enjoyed the position their success has afforded them, leading the Scenic West with a mark of 6-0, it has also given them the pressure of maintaining one of the longest streaks in program history. Salt Lake will put that record to test once again this Saturday, traveling to face longtime rival Southern Idaho in a Scenic West Athletic Conference game.

SLCC coach Marcilina Grayer said the focus of the Bruins will remain on strong play this upcoming weekend.

"We had a good week last week," she said. "We are looking forward to the battle at CSI, which will definitely be a tough-fought game by both teams. As always, our focus is on executing the game plan."

Salt Lake earned a 67-55 win over Southern Idaho in the first matchup of the season, with CSI claiming an early lead in Taylorsville before the Bruins outscored the Golden Eagles over the following three quarters to earn the victory. Leichan Williams had a double-double in the game, with four different Bruins scoring in double-figures in the game. Southern Idaho is sitting at 2-4 in league play, in solo third place in the standings. The Golden Eagles are coming off back-to-back losses to USU Eastern and Snow, respectively.

Salt Lake and Southern Idaho will play at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday in Twin Falls. The Bruins will return home on Thursday, Feb. 6, for a game with USU Eastern.
