SLCC Women's Basketball prepares for weekend tourney at Southern Idaho

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (December 5, 2019) - The Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team will take to the road this weekend for a holiday tournament hosted by a Scenic West rival.

SLCC will travel for a two-game set in Twin Falls in a tournament hosted by the College of Southern Idaho, with games scheduled for Friday against Edmonds Community College and Saturday against Williston State College. This weekend starts a string of three-consecutive weekends of December holiday tournaments, with a tourney in Salt Lake next week and a tournament in Las Vegas the weekend after.

SLCC coach Marcilina Grayer said her team is excited for the opportunities coming their way.

"We had two good wins last week and felt our team got better," she said. "We have two tough opponents this weekend. We want to continue to get better and finish out this semester strong."

Salt Lake earned wins over Eastern Wyoming and Western Wyoming last weekend, with a thrilling 78-77 win over Eastern Wyoming last Friday standing out. SLCC's Ashley Scoggin also earned individual honors from the Scenic West Athletic Conference due to her success in the wins last weekend.

This weekend's opponents will feature a mix of styles from different parts of the country. Edmonds Community College, a junior college from Washington, is 0-5 to start the season. Williston State, out of North Dakota, is 2-9 on the season with wins over Scenic West foe Colorado Northwestern.

Salt Lake's Friday game against Edmonds is scheduled to tip at 1:00 p.m. The Saturday game against Williston State will also be played at 1:00 p.m.
