TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (December 18, 2019) - The Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team has traveled the country since the season began, playing in a variety of tournaments that have featured a variety of competition.
The long-and-winding road of the preseason is about to come to a conclusion for the Bruins, who've earned a mark of 8-4 in their pre-holiday action. Salt Lake will travel to Las Vegas this weekend for a three-day tourney hosted by the College of Southern Nevada, facing off against a number of regionally-diverse schools in their final tournament of the regular season.
Playing in their seventh-straight tournament to open the 2019-20 season, SLCC coach
Marcilina Grayer said her players are trying to head into the break with confidence.
"We have three tough games coming up to close out our preseason," she said. "Our focus is now on finishing strong before the break."
Salt Lake will open the CSN tourney with a game against Central Arizona on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. Central Arizona has opened the season going 10-1, ranked at No. 5 in the latest NJCAA polls. Central Arizona's lone loss came in a narrow 80-79 loss to No. 12 New Mexico. SLCC's Friday opponent is North Idaho, a long-time Scenic West Athletic Conference foe of yesteryear. North Idaho is 4-2 in the preseason. The Bruins will play Dawson Community College on Saturday before traveling home.
SLCC's Scenic West Athletic Conference opener is scheduled for January 4 at home against Colorado Northwestern Community College. The Bruins will play a pair of Scenic West home games to open their schedule.Â
