Marcilina Grayer era of the No. 15 Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team opened with a strong victory on Friday in a Wyoming-based tournament.
The Bruins opened the 2019-20 season with a 62-51 victory over Central Wyoming College, utilizing a strong first half to move to 1-0 on the young season. The win came in a tournament hosted by Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs, Wyo.Â
SLCCÂ took an early first quarter lead and never looked back in the win. Salt Lake led 18-11 after the opening period, stretching the lead to 51-39 after three quarters. The Bruins limited Central Wyoming to just 34.7 percent shooting in the game (17-of-49) and controlled the glass with a 40-31 edge in rebounding. Salt Lake's bench also provided a boost by outscoring Central Wyoming's bench, 16-6. Salt Lake led by as many as 15 points.Â
Awa Sidibe led the Bruins with 23 points, converting on 10-of-22 from the field while also picking up 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double.
Jalyn VanDyke also finished in double figures with 10 points.Â
Salt Lake will play host Western Wyoming at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday to conclude the tournament. The Bruins will play their home opener inside the Lifetime Activities Center on Nov. 29 against Eastern Wyoming College.Â
