Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 2, 2018) - The Salt Lake Community College Bruins are hoping their season is far from being over and they're playing like it.
The Bruins are the top seed in the Region 18 tournament at Snow College, a seed that is representative of Salt Lake finishing as the top team in the Scenic West Athletic Conference during the regular season. The Bruins powered to a 24-5 record entering the league tournament, with a 10-2 mark against league teams.
Extend that mark to 25-5 and 11-2 against league foes as the Bruins earned a 71-60 victory over USU Eastern in the Region 18 semifinals. With the win, Salt Lake advanced the Region 18 championship game, scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Saturday against the College of Southern Idaho.Â
It was the USU Eastern Eagles who took the early lead, leading 18-14 after the first period. However, Salt Lake responded by going on a 22-14 run in the second quarter to take a 36-32 halftime lead. SLCC limited USU Eastern to just 2-of-10 three-point shooting in the second quarter, a far cry from the 55.6 percent (5-of-9) the Eagles shot in the first half.
The Bruins have made their mark throughout the season as a team built on depth and strength and those marks proved themselves throughout the game. Salt Lake held a 20-12 edge in points-in-the-paint, and a 16-8 advantage in bench points.

Tia Hay, the Region 18 Player-of-the-Year, finished with 34 points and 8 rebounds, making 6-of-9 three-point shots. Miki'alo Maio finished with 12 points, while
Kimauri Toia finished with 11 points.
Saturday's championship game will be streamed at live.ksl.com. The winner of the Region 18 championship will advance to the NJCAA National Tournament. Salt Lake is the defending Region 18 champion.Â
