No. 13 Bruins power to strong home win over Southern Idaho

Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 15, 2018) - A loss last week had an effect on the No. 13 Salt Lake Community College Bruins.

The Bruins had a week to review their errors in a home loss to Snow College, survey their landscape in the Scenic West Athletic Conference and search for ways to improve as a unit. Overall, Salt Lake's goal was to use the loss as motivation to refocus energy heading into the stretch run of the regular season.

Needless to say, SLCC could proudly claim "Mission Accomplished" on Thursday in a home game against the College of Southern Idaho, with the Bruins powering to a dominating 78-42 victory to move to 7-2 in league play. With the win, Salt lake maintains its spot atop the SWAC, sitting in a tie with in-state rival Snow College.

The Bruins took a 21-5 lead after the first quarter, holding CSI to a 1-of-10 performance from the field. SLCC opened the game on a 13-1 run, leading 44-15 at halftime. Southern Idaho shot just 25 percent from the floor in the game (14-of-56).

In contrast, Salt Lake had one of its better offensive performances, specifically in the first three quarters with starters playing a majority of the minutes. While SLCC finished with a shooting percentage of 48.4 percent, the Bruins shot 60 percent (27-of-45) through three quarters of basketball.

Tia Hay continued her run through the Scenic West, finishing with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Miki'alo Maio contributed 16 points, while Jamaica Christensen scored 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

Salt Lake hosts in-state rival USU Eastern Saturday, with a scheduled start time of 3:00 p.m at the Lifetime Activities Center on the Taylorsville Campus. Live stats will be available at www.slccbruins.com, with live streaming available at live.ksl.com.
