TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (December 5, 2018) - The Salt Lake Community College Athletic Department is committed to its basketball programs.

Look no further than the fact that SLCC hosts a handful of preseason tournaments for its nationally-ranked men's-and-women's programs, including a tournament this weekend that will lead each program into an extended holiday break. The No. 16 SLCC women's basketball team will host a pair of games this week inside the Lifetime Activities Center, including matchups on Thursday against Utah Premier and Saturday against Western Wyoming Community College.

SLCC coach Betsy Specketer said the team is excited to finish on a high note before the annual holiday break.

"After a couple of tough road games, we're really excited about playing at home this weekend," she said. "We've been so proud of our young team and how they've grown and improved over the past month."

Salt Lake enter this weekend's tourney on a six-game winning streak, including victories over nationally-ranked Georgia Highlands and Williston State last weekend. The Bruins also had some individual honors thrown their way from the Scenic West Athletic Conference, as Savanah Crane earned weekly honors from the league after dominating the glass throughout the Southern Idaho tourney.

This week's Thursday game against Utah Premier will give SLCC a chance to showcase against a variety of prospects and talents, while Saturday's game against Western Wyoming will be a rematch of a contest last week that ended in a 64-58 road victory for the Bruins.

Specketer said the Bruins have continued to build on their momentum throughout the preseason.

"We put together two really good wins this past weekend and we're looking forward to building on that success this weekend," she said. 

Thursday's game against Utah Premier will start at 5:00 p.m., with Saturday's game against Western Wyoming beginning at 3:00 p.m. Both games will have live stats on www.slccbruins.com.
