Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (December 27, 2018) - In her comments throughout the winter break, SLCC women's basketball coach
Betsy Specketer wanted her team to find a way to rest while maintaining a competitive edge.
The No. 15 Bruins must have heard her holiday wishes loud-and-clear, with the team picking up a 58-49 victory over Central Arizona College. The victory extends Salt Lake's winning streak to 9 games, upping their record to 13-2.
Specketer said she was very pleased with the team's performance.
"For our first game after the break, I thought we played fairly well," she said. "We obviously need to take better care of the ball and that will be a focus point for tomorrow's game against Gray's Harbor."
SLCC held a 29-17 lead at halftime, thanks to holding Central Arizona to just a 17.6 percent shooting in the second quarter (3-of-17). Salt Lake went just 1-of-10 from three-point range in the game but held a 34-26 advantage in points-in-the-paint. The Bruins also held a 24-14 edge in second-chance points.Â
In her Salt Lake Community College debut, Salem Hills product
Lauren Gustin finished with a team-high 28 points and 18 rebounds.
Miki'ala Maio also had 14 points for the Bruins.Â
Salt Lake will play at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, playing against Gray's Harbor Community College. The Bruins will open their Scenic West Athletic Conference opener on January 5 against Southern Idaho.Â
