TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (December 26, 2018) - No one enjoyed the holiday break quite like the No. 15 Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team.
Time spent refreshing and recharging did the team well, especially as they prepare to embark upon a long, arduous fray throughout the Scenic West Athletic Conference. However, before the Bruins open league play, they will play in a traditionally-strong tournament to get back into playing form, playing in a tourney hosted by the College of Southern Nevada.
SLCC coach
Betsy Specketer said playing in a tournament right after the break is critical to getting the team prepared for league play.
"(Southern Nevada's) tournament is always a challenge, but I'm anxious to get the team back together and get back to work," she said. "Despite some injuries, we feel really good about where we are at this point in the season."
Salt Lake will play three games in the tourney, opening with Central Arizona on Dec. 27. SLCC already earned a 79-72 victory over Central Arizona on Nov. 7 in the second game of the season. The Bruins will also play Gray's Harbor Community College on Dec. 28, with a game against Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Dec. 29.
Specketer said the competition in the tournament is good.
"We'll play three tough games in Vegas, then come home and get started for SWAC league play," she said.Â
SLCC will play its Scenic West opener on Jan. 5 at Southern Idaho. The Bruins will play their first league home game on Jan. 12 against Snow College.Â
