Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 7, 2018) - Tuesday's sloppy play turned out to be a blessing-in-disguise for the No. 17 Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team.
While the Bruins earned a big win in the season-opener Tuesday, in spite of not playing well, their mixed performance gave SLCCÂ coach
Betsy Specketer exactly the ammunition she needed to lift Salt Lake to a big victory over a nationally-recognized opponent in Central Arizona. Behind double-digit scoring performances from five different Bruins, Salt Lake powered to an 80-72 win over Central Arizona, who was 3-0 entering the game.
Leichan Williams led Salt Lake with 23 points and 8 rebounds, while
Miki'ala Maio finished with 13 points.
Kayla Anderson and
Dixie Lainhart had 11 points, while
Emma Villas-Gomis scored 10 points for SLCC.
"This was a great game for so early in the season," said SLCC coach
Betsy Specketer. "Both teams played super hard. I thought we shared the ball really well and made some big shots down the stretch to secure the win."
The Bruins will have an off-day Thursday, followed by a tournament starting Friday. Salt Lake will play Cochise College on Thursday, before playing Mesa Community College Saturday.
