TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 6, 2018) - With the way the 2017-18 season ended for the No. 17 Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team, one could easily understand why the Bruins are so excited to get the 2018-19 season underway.
SLCC's season begins Tuesday evening with a road game at Eastern Arizona College, with Salt Lake playing multiple games against Arizona schools through the weekend. The game against Eastern Arizona will serve as the tip-off to the 23rd season for Bruins coach
Betsy Specketer, a tenure that has featured 520 overall wins and a host of good memories.
In spite of her years of experience, Specketer said she still gets excited for the challenges of a new season.
"We're really excited to finally get the season started," she said. "It's early, so I'm actually more concerned with seeing where we are at at this point and continuing to improve as a team. Four quality games in five days will help us learn a lot."
While Salt Lake returns several contributors from last year's Scenic West championship team, there are a number of new players to integrate. The challenge of playing multiple games in a week will be enough for SLCC, as the Bruins also play Wednesday evening against Central Arizona College. After an off-day on Thursday, Salt Lake will play in a tournament hosted by Mesa Community College. The match will feature games against Cochise College Friday and Mesa on Saturday.
Tuesday's game against Eastern Arizona is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start. Salt Lake will play its first home game on Nov. 23, as the Bruins host their annual Thanksgiving tourney.Â
