No. 17 SLCC earns road victory at Western Wyoming

Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 28, 2018) - An impressive performance from Leichan Williams powered the No. 17 Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team to a road victory Wednesday.

The Bruins earned a 64-58 victory at Western Wyoming, pushing their season mark to 8-2 overall in the process. SLCC held WWCC to just 34.9 percent shooting for the game, controlling the game defensively.

"I'm really proud of our group," said SLCC coach Betsy Specketer. "It wasn't pretty and it was definitely a grind, but we gutted out a road win against a very good Western Wyoming squad."

Salt Lake led 31-20 at halftime, thanks to a successful mark behind the three-point line (5-of-13 compared to 1-of-7). With the halftime lead, SLCC used its depth and toughness to finish off the victory, with the Bruins holding an 11-2 advantage in bench points and an edge in free-throws (12-of-18 compared to 8-of-10).

Williams led the team with 21 points, dominating the paint while hitting 9-of-12 shots from the field. Dixie Lainhart also had 18 points, hitting four shots from distance. Savanah Crane also had 8 points.

The Bruins will play in a tournament hosted by Scenic West rival Southern Idaho this weekend, playing two games in the tourney. Salt Lake will play Georgia Highlands at 5:30 on Friday night, with a Saturday game against Williston State at 5:30.
