No. 17 SLCC falls to Odessa in Preseason WNIT semifinals

Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 16, 2018) - A tough night offensively sent the No. 17 Salt Lake Community College women's basketball team to a disappointing loss.

Playing in the semifinals of the Preseason WNIT tourney, the Bruins fell 56-42 to Odessa College Friday. Salt Lake led early but wasn't able to sustain the momentum as Odessa powered forward for the win. The loss drops Salt Lake's overall record to 4-2.

It was SLCC who led 16-12 after the opening quarter, in spite of making just 1-of-6 three-point shots. However, the Bruins would trail at halftime, 29-22, and would score a total of 20 points throughout the remainder of the game. Salt Lake shot just 27 percent for the night, making just 1-of-21 three-point attempts.

"We really struggled shooting the ball tonight, but managed to stay in the game with our defense," said SLCC coach Betsy Specketer. "We played hard but we just couldn't buy a basket. We'll hopefully shoot it better tomorrow."

Leichan Williams had another outstanding night for Salt Lake, leading SLCC with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Miki'ala Maio was SLCC's other double-digit scorer, finishing with 12 points.

The Bruins will play in a consolation game on Saturday against Scenic West Athletic Conference foe Southern Idaho, in a rare non-conference matchup between the two programs. The game will take place at 4:00 p.m.
