TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 16, 2018) - The No. 14 Salt Lake Community College women's soccer program is in position to earn its best-ever finish to the regular season, with a chance to finish the season as the Scenic West Athletic Conference champions.
However, in order to achieve that goal, the Bruins have to fulfill the task at-hand this weekend in the final week of the regular-season, starting on Wednesday as SLCCÂ hosts nationally-ranked Snow College. Salt Lake will play its final regular-season match at USU Eastern Friday, setting up a critical weekend in the Scenic West.
Bruins coach
Mark Davis said his team is very excited at the prospects entering this week.
"It's a credit to our program that we're in such good position as we conclude the regular-season," he said. "This weekend is a critical step as we try to achieve our goals. It will take a great deal of focus and energy to prepare."
Snow College enters Zions Bank Stadium on Wednesday with league title hopes of its own. The Badgers are 6-0-1 in the Scenic West, with their only blemish being a 1-1 tie against the Bruins. Snow is also the only program to best Salt Lake, handing them a 2-0 loss in Ephraim. Snow sits at No. 8 in the latest rankings.
USU Eastern sits last in the league standings, but the results aren't completely indicative of what the Eagles have to offer. SLCCÂ earned narrow victories over USU Eastern at home, winning matches by scores of 3-0 and 2-1. While the record of the Eagles has been up-and-down, USU Eastern has a record of 4-2-1 in Price.Â
The ultimate goal for every SWAC program is playing in the Region 18 tournament, which will be held from Oct. 25-27 at the home of the regular-season champion. Currently, the tourney-hosting honors are between Snow and SLCC.
Davis said Wednesday's home match will be a critical contest.
"It's hard to overstate the importance of Wednesday's home match for us," he said. "It would be awesome to have a home crowd full of Bruin blue to support us as we try to claim the regular-season title."
Wednesday's match against Snow College will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, with Friday's match at USU Eastern starting at 1:00 p.m. in Price. Recaps for both matches will be available at www.slccbruins.com.Â
