Salt Lake climbs to another win in CSN tourney

Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (December 28, 2017) - Playing an afternoon game after an evening game can be a challenge for nearly any team.

Luckily for the Salt Lake Community College, the #BruinWay guarantees that their team is at least prepared for various scenarios and difficulties. The Bruins had a heavy challenge Thursday, playing nationally-ranked Central Arizona in a tourney game hosted by College of Southern Nevada. The Bruins left CSN with a 76-60 victory over the Vaqueros, pushing their record to 13-3.

Salt Lake jumped out to an early lead, holding a 41-29 advantage at halftime. After leading 21-18 after the end of the first quarter, the Bruins went on a 20-11 run in the second quarter, holding Central Arizona to 36.8 percent shooting in the game. The Vaqueros were also held to just 33.3 percent shooting (4-of-12) from three-point range.

SLCC's bench made a significant contribution in the game, with the Bruins' bench outscoring Central Arizona 30-14. Salt Lake also dominated the paint, holding a 34-16 edge.

Tia Hay led the Bruins with 15 points, while Ariel Miller finished with 14 points. Emma Villas-Gomis also scored 11 points for Salt Lake.

After the game, Bruins coach Betsy Specketer praised her team's overall effort and bench play as the reasons behind the impressive win over a quality non-conference opponent.

Salt Lake will play one more game in Vegas, finishing the tournament Friday against Treasure Valley Community College at 2:00 p.m. The Bruins open Scenic West play on Jan. 6 against USU Eastern.
