TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 25, 2017) – The continued growth of a program can be judged best on how it prepares itself for bigger-and-better opportunities.
Â
For the Salt Lake Community College Bruin women's soccer program, the opportunity to showcase growth is now as the program prepares to compete at this weekend's Region 18 tournament – a single-elimination tourney hosted by the College of Southern Nevada. The bout will include four Scenic West programs who will all be competing for a berth in the 2017 NJCAA National Tournament.
Â
The Bruins qualified for the tourney as the SWAC's second-best team throughout the season, finishing the regular season with a record of 10-4-1 overall and 8-3-1 in league play. The other SWAC teams include top-seeded Snow College, third-seeded USU Eastern and fourth-seed CSN. The Coyotes can host the tourney on the strength of their men's program winning the league.
Â
Salt Lake will open the tourney with a matchup against USU Eastern at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. The Bruins went 2-1 against the Eagles this season, sweeping both matches in Price but losing at home. SLCC had a 7-1 advantage in goal-differential in the season, with Utah State Eastern earning a 1-0 win in Taylorsville on Oct. 13.

SLCC coach
Mark Davis said the women's program has much to be excited about after a breakthrough season.
"We are excited about how the season has gone," he said. "I am proud of our team has battled hard every single day. I feel that we are playing our best soccer right now. We are very organized and are putting balls in the back of the net.
Â
The Region 18 tournament is a single-elimination tournament. The matchup on the other side of the bracket includes top-seeded Snow against CSN. Snow College finished the season with a record of 11-0-1 in league play; the Badgers' only tie came against Salt Lake on Sept. 23. The Coyotes finished the season at 5-9-2 overall.

Saturday's championship match is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Complete recaps will be available at slccbruins.com.
