Salt Lake City, UT—The No. 9-ranked SLCC Women's Basketball team (23-6, 12-2 SWAC) defeated Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent USU-Eastern (13-15, 6-8 SWAC) by a final score of 79-61 on Thursday night at Bruin Arena. With the win SLCC moves to 11-0 at home with one contest remaining in the regular season.

The Bruins are now tied for first place in the SWAC standings with rival No. 8 College of Southern Idaho (26-3, 12-2 SWAC) but own the tiebreaker with the Golden Eagles by virtue of a 2-1 regular season series win. SLCC needs just one win this Saturday at home over Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) (7-20, 0-14 SWAC) to secure the No. 1 seed heading into next week's Region 18 Championships in Ephraim, UT (Feb. 27-Mar.1).

Game Recap: SLCC out-rebounded USU-Eastern 49-41 and shot 45.7 percent from the field in the winning effort. SLCC was 8-for-23 from three point range and 7-for-18 from the free throw line. USU-Eastern finished at 34.8 percent shooting on 23-for-66 from the field and the Golden Eagles were 8-for-32 from beyond the arc. SLCC led throughout and owned a 16 point lead at the halftime break.

Stats vs. USU-E: SLCC freshman guard Cassidy Fraughton (American Fork, UT) led all scorers with 15 points and completed a double-double with 14 rebounds. Sophomore guard Natalie Parsons (Bountiful, UT) added 12 points with six rebounds and three assists and sophomore guard Mercedes Riggs (Lindon, UT) added 11 points with three rebounds and six assists.

Sophomore guard Summer Yack (South Jordan, UT) turned in 11 points with five rebounds and nine assists and sophomore forward Britney Johnson (Pleasant Grove, UT) scored eight points with six rebounds.

Next up for Head Coach Betsy Specketer and the Bruins will be the team's final regular season game on Saturday, Feb. 22 as SLCC will face CNCC at Bruin Arena with tipoff slated for 3 p.m. SLCC leads the regular season series with CNCC 2-0.
