Twin Falls, ID—The
No. 8-ranked SLCC Women's Basketball team (22-6, 11-2 SWAC) fell to Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) rival
No. 9-ranked College of Southern Idaho (CSI) (26-3, 12-2 SWAC)
80-76 in overtime on Saturday at the CSI Gymnasium. Southern Idaho avoided the 3-0 regular season series sweep by the Bruins with the win.
Recap: The Bruins led by five points at 34-29 at the half, but CSI outscored Salt Lake 38-33 in the second frame to force the extra period. SLCC trailed 76-70 in overtime until Bruin sophomore guard
Mercedes Riggs (Lindon, UT) banked in a three point basket to narrow the deficit to three points.
SLCC was charged with a technical foul after the made basket as a timeout was taken though the Bruins had none remaining. CSI sophomore guard
Patrice Toston made a pair of free throws as a result to stretch the margin to 78-73, and despite another late three point shot from
Riggs, SLCC could not close the gap and was outscored 13-9 in the overtime period.
Salt Lake shot 42.0 percent on 29-of-69 from the field and CSI finished at 36.4 percent shooting on 28-for-77 from the field. The Bruins were 8-for-27 from three point range and CSI was 5-for-22 from beyond the arc.
Southern Idaho out-rebounded SLCC 50-44 and was 19-for-28 from the foul line. The Bruins were 10-of-13 from the free throw line in the loss.
Stats vs. CSI: SLCC sophomore forward
Bella Swan (Farmington, UT) led all scorers with 19 points to go with five rebounds and two assists. The Viewmont High School graduate was 8-for-9 shooting in the contest.
Riggs turned in 14 points with six rebounds and a pair of assists and sophomore guard
Summer Yack (South Jordan, UT) scored 14 points to go with five assists. Sophomore guard
Natalie Parsons (Bountiful, UT) added 11 points, six rebounds and six assists in the losing effort.

Betsy Specketer and the Bruins is a home game against USU-Eastern (11-15, 5-7 SWAC) on Thursday, Feb.20 at Bruin Arena with tipoff slated for 5:30 p.m. SLCC leads the regular season series with USU-Eastern 2-0.
