Bruin Women's Basketball eases past CNCC in opening round of Region 18 play

18th-ranked Bruins win by 38, coast to Round 1 victory at Region 18 Tourney

Coeur d'Alene, ID—The No. 18-ranked SLCC Women's Basketball team (19-10, 10-6 SWAC) opened the Region 18 Basketball Championships with a 79-41 win over Colorado Northwestern CC (14-17, 3-13 SWAC) on Thursday. The Bruins held a 42-16 halftime lead and held the Spartans to just 23.1% shooting for the game.

The third seeded Bruins, winners of three straight games, out-rebounded sixth seeded CNCC 43-26 and forced 18 Spartan turnovers in the winning effort. SLCC had 45 bench points, four players in double figures and was 21 for 28 at the free throw line.

Bruin freshman guard Summer Yack (South Jordan, UT) scored 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting and was 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Sophomore center Rachel Morris (Mesquite, NV) also scored 14 points to go with five rebounds. Sophomore guard Katie Richens (Roosevelt, UT) tallied 10 points to go with four rebounds and freshman guard Natalie Parsons (Bountiful, UT) added 10 points in the winning effort.

Head Coach Betsy Specketer and the Bruins advance to face No. 2-seeded North Idaho College (NIC) (27-3, 12-3 SWAC) on Friday, Mar. 1 at Noon (Pacific) in the semifinal round of Region 18 play. NIC leads the season series with the Bruins 2-1 and SLCC is one of just two teams to have beaten the Cardinals this season.
