Bruin Women turn in solid performance, avoid season series sweep with big home victory

Salt Lake City, UT—The No. 19-ranked SLCC Women's Basketball team (16-9, 8-5 SWAC) won its third straight game by defeating rival No. 14-ranked College of Southern Idaho (CSI) (17-11, 10-3 SWAC) 73-58 on Thursday at Bruin Arena. SLCC shot 50.0% from the field in the win and out-rebounded the Golden Eagles 44-35. The Bruins avoided a 3-0 season series sweep with the victory.

SLCC sophomore guard Katie Richens (Roosevelt, UT) led all scorers with 21 points to go with nine rebounds in the winning effort. Sophomore center Rachel Morris (Mesquite, NV) added 11 points and eight rebounds and freshman forward Bella Swan (Farmington, UT) scored 10 points to go with eight rebounds on the night.

Next up for Head Coach Betsy Specketer and the Bruins is the team's final home game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 16 when SLCC meets No. 4-ranked North Idaho College (NIC) (26-2, 11-2 SWAC) on Sophomore Day. The season series between NIC and SLCC is tied at 1-1, with the home team in the head-to-head matchups winning each contest. Saturday's game will get underway at 3 p.m. at Bruin Arena.
