Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO- No. 8 seed Salt Lake (3-1) pulled off an unprecedented comeback beating No. 6 seed Florence-Darlington (1-2) 17-16.
The Bruins trailed 10-1 after an unbelievable first inning. Flo-Dar hit a grand slam and tallied three home runs in the inning. Salt Lake got their first run off an RBI single from 1B Jalen Seward.
After a scoreless second inning the Stingers scored a run in the top of the third. The Bruins scored eight runs in the bottom half and got themselves back into the game. RF Hudson Manwaring got the inning started with a two-run home run and also hit a bases clearing double in his second at-bat of the inning making the score 11-9
Florence-Darlington responded well and boosted their lead as they scored four runs in the fourth
LF Chandler Reber hit a solo home run to deep left field to start the bottom of the fifth. Three batters later, Manwaring went yard with a two-run blast.
After a scoreless top of the sixth inning Salt Lake scored three runs and miraculously brought the game to a 15-15 tie. Chandler Reber hit a two-RBI double and Jalen Seward hit a sac-fly RBI. The Stingers homered in the seventh to reclaim the lead 16-15.
For the second straight game DH Avery Doezie hit a clutch home run in the eighth inning for Salt Lake. Doezie's two-run blast gave the Bruins a 17-16 lead.
RHP Easton Davies recorded the win for Salt Lake. After RHP Zaylun Fenn threw 1.1 scoreless innings Davies pitched the seventh and eighth innings and allowed only one run.
The Bruins closer Darius Henderson shut down the Stingers in the ninth with two strikeouts and went three up three down once again.
Manwaring finished 3 for 6 with seven RBI and two runs scored. Reber was 3 for 5 with three RBI and three runs scored. CF Luke Jacobs was 3 for 3 with two walks and five runs scored. Five SLCC players recorded three hits.
There were eight home runs in the game and a favorable wind during certain at-bats. Two of Salt Lake's 17 runs were unearned. Five of Florence-Darlington's 16 runs were unearned.
