TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (Saturday, August 31, 2024)— Fifth-ranked Salt Lake is working to find an identity as it rides the ebbs and tides of early season momentum. A team with high expectations, the Bruins have struggled to translate those expectations into on-court success consistently.

SLCC dropped a disappointing five-set match against un-ranked Northwest College. Salt Lake won the first two sets 27-25 and 25-22. A 25-23 third-set loss gave Northwest momentum, leading to a 25-14 fourth-set thumping. The Bruins couldn't regain their early form, falling 15-13 in the deciding set.

SLCC bounced back with an extended five-set win against Western Wyoming, improving to 7-4 overall. Salt Lake prevailed in a back-and-forth slug-fest, taking sets two and three while the Mustangs took the bread games. The Bruins pulled out a thrilling 21-19 win to steal the match heading into Saturday's double-header.

"It's early in the season, and we look at these experiences as gifts," head coach Shay Goulding Meurer said following Friday's five-set win over Western Wyoming. "We can use these close matches to show grit and become tougher, or we can shy away from the challenge. Learning to play under this pressure now can be the best thing for us."
