WEST JORDAN, Utah (Saturday, April 13, 2024)— The Bruins' hopes of hosting the Region 18 tournament took a hit after Salt Lake lost its second straight to the Eagles before rebounding to win the nightcap.

Salt Lake is now 38-8 overall and 22-6 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play this season. The Bruins are 17-5 at Cate Field. 

Game Three

Neither offense could find any footing until extra innings when USU Eastern used a McGwire Jephson grand slam to shut the door on Salt Lake.

Shay Timmer started on the mound, walking five and giving up just two hits in five innings. Beau Sampson took the loss after giving up all five runs in the eighth.

Trey Gambill went 2-3 with a pair of singles.

Game Four
SLCC 3 | USU E 2

Salt Lake took a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning, but the Eagles rallied with a solo home run from McGwire Jephson and then tied the game when Hunter Gattie singled home Bodee Goings.

Jake Olsen scored from first on a Trey Gambill to help the Bruins stave off disaster. 

Kyle Keyes struck out six Eagles in six innings but the late rally prevented him from getting the win. 

Gambill went 2-3 with a run scored and RBI.

The No. 9 Bruins (38-8, 22-6) play host to Community Christian College for doubleheaders on Friday, April 26, and Saturday, April 27.

First pitch is Friday at 2 p.m. MT.
