TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 20, 2023) – A full week of action lies ahead for the Salt Lake Community College Athletic Department.
The spotlight this week lies on the No. 5 SLCC Men's Basketball team, who will open the NJCAA tournament on Wednesday. Additionally, No. 16 SLCC Softball and SLCC Baseball will also both host home series.

Baseball: After a rocky preseason, the SLCC Baseball team finds itself just outside of the top spot in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings, hosting an in-state rival this week.
Salt Lake will host USU Eastern in a Scenic West series, playing doubleheaders on Sunday and Monday at Cate Field. SLCC has only played four games on the turf this season, with inclement weather consistently affecting the schedule.
USU Eastern is currently in third place in the league standings, sitting at 2-2 overall.
Softball: Salt Lake is riding high atop the Scenic West, sitting at No. 16 in the latest NJCAA rankings.
The Bruins are 10-2 in conference play, leading the league with a winning percentage of .833. SLCC went 3-1 on the road at Southern Idaho last week, returning home Sunday to start a four-game series with Southern Nevada.
Salt Lake coach
Cyndee Bennett said her team is ready for the challenge that is ahead.
"We face a strong opponent with a lot of returners and last year's 'Player-of-the-Year' in the Scenic West," she said. "We need to continue to rely on our bats and pitching staff to have success."
While cold weather certainly affects Salt Lake's practices, it hasn't affected results on the field. Bennett noted SLCC's strength comes from its focus.
"While we are tired of practicing inside, it allows us to focus on our fundamentals and swings," she said. "We embrace the opportunity to have very focused practices inside to prepare for the weekends."
