Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 11, 2023) – Another weekend, another trophy for the No. 9 Salt Lake Community College Men's Basketball team.

The thrill of March postseason basketball was found in plentiful supply in Taylorsville Saturday, with the hometown Bruins earning an 80-67 win over Arizona Western in the NJCAA Western District championship game. SLCC's win gives the Bruins successful defense of both their Region 18 and West District titles from a year ago, along with guaranteeing Salt Lake a spot in the upcoming NJCAA championships in Kansas.

SLCC played its way to the district title by staying authentic to itself, posting a 32-22 advantage at halftime, and then playing great defense throughout the game. Arizona Western shot just 35.5 percent from the floor in the game, with SLCC shooting a crisp 54.2 percent. Salt Lake led by as many as 20 points in the second half.Â

Dwayne Koroma and
Alejandro Vasquez both finished with 16 points each to lead Salt Lake, while
Jalen Weaver scored 14 points on 5-of-5 shooting.
Jaxon Pollard also scored 10 points.Â

The Bruins are now 29-4 overall.Â

Salt Lake has now earned an automatic berth into the NJCAA Division-I Men's Basketball Tournament, which will be held in late March in Hutchinson, Kan. SLCC has qualified for the tournament in four consecutive years.Â
