Salt Lake City, Utah- Parker Van Dyke has returned to Salt Lake City to start another chapter of his basketball career. This time the former Utah Ute hooper will be coaching. "I am beyond grateful to be the new assistant basketball coach here at SLCC. It's an honor to be a part of such an historic program. I look forward to working alongside Coach Rice and helping our student-athletes achieve success on and off the floor," said Van Dyke.
Van Dyke will be the full-time assistant coach under head coach Dave Rice who begins his third year as Salt Lake's head men's basketball coach.
"We are so excited to have Parker join our program. He has deep Utah roots and brings so much credibility with him after highly successful years playing at East High School and the University of Utah. Parker will add so much to our program and he has a very bright future in coaching," said Rice.
As a junior in 2011-12 at East High School Van Dyke was named the 4A Player of the year and led the state in scoring (24.7 PPG). Parker played in 120 games for the University of Utah. He shot 36.4% from 3 for his career which included 73 made 3-point shots and an impressive 41% from behind the arc his senior season.
"As a player Parker embodied the definition of a student-athlete and in addition to his talent, he was always known for his high basketball IQ and commitment to team chemistry. He has a brilliant basketball mind and has also developed a strong reputation for his ability to develop players through individual workouts," said Dave Rice.
Before his successful career at the U, Van Dyke played Club Basketball for Dave Hammer and Salt Lake Metro. Hammer and Van Dyke are back together once again, both as assistants on the Bruin staff.
