No. 11 SLCC Baseball drops close game with South Mountain

Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 4, 2023) – A week ago, the No. 11 Salt Lake Community College Baseball team had a tough opening weekend against South Mountain.

Saturday, SLCC had its collective heart broken in a narrow loss to SMCC, dropping a 5-4 game in the 'Zinger Bat' tournament in Arizona. The Bruins are now 1-6 overall.

Trailing early, Chip Beck had a sacrifice-fly RBI in the third inning to tie the game at 1-1, then Ethan Lamb hit a two-out RBI double in the fourth inning to give the Bruins a 2-1 advantage. SLCC retook the lead in the seventh inning, then broke another tie in the eighth inning after a leadoff double by Daniel Gonzalez. Unfortunately, South Mountain scored runs in the bottom of the eighth-and-ninth innings to earn the close win over the Bruins.

Salt Lake will play in one more tournament game Sunday.
