Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (Wednesday, November 29, 2023) – SLCC outlasted Laramie County in an overtime classic, remaining undefeated with the 113-112 win.
The Bruins improved to 9-0 with their first overtime contest of the season.
"I haven't been in too many games like that in my career," head coach Kyle Taylor said following the win. "Both teams were so dynamic on the offensive end, and neither team could get into any sort of rhythm on the defensive end. Both teams hit a ton of huge shots."
Salt Lake trailed by two with six seconds left in regulation but a perfectly executed out-of-bounds play led to a game-tying lay-in for Jordan Battle.
"I thought we showed a lot of composure at the end of regulation when Laramie got the and-one from Tchouya to go up two points with six seconds left. All five guys for us executed exactly what we wanted and Jordan got us a layup at the buzzer to force OT."
Three Bruins topped the 20-point plateau, led by CJ Luster's 25-point, ten rebound double-double. The sophomore guard came up big in OT with one of his two shots from deep as the Bruins took the lead.
"We jumped on them early in OT, with CJ Luster hitting a three on the first possession, and then Michael Folarin got three offensive rebounds on our second possession which led to a Bryce Zephir three."
Salt Lake had to weather some growing pains in the final minute but dug deep to extend its winning streak to nine games.
"Down the stretch, our immaturity and lack of game experience showed with four turnovers in the final two minutes. We also fouled three three-point shooters in the final minute, which we can't do again. So hopefully we learned from that.
"In the end though, any win on the road is a good win. We'll definitely take it and move on to the next one. Another tough road game Friday at Yavapai," Taylor finished.
Xavier Edmonds and Bryce Zephir each scored 20 points. Edmonds added nine boards while Zephir chipped in a team-high six assists.
The Bruins made 9-of-30 threes and hit 50 percent of their shots overall.
Salt Lake will take on Yavapai College on Friday, December 1 in Prescott, Arizona. Tip-off for this game is scheduled for 7 p.m. (MT). Find tickets for all Salt Lake Community College events here.
