Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 28, 2023) – The No. 11 Salt Lake Community College Baseball team struggled Saturday, falling in a doubleheader sweep to close a non-conference series.
Salt Lake posted losses of 6-5 and 5-3 to South Mountain Community College, getting swept in the series. The Bruins are now 0-4 with the losses.
SLCC will play in the 'Zinger Classic' tournament in Arizona next weekend.
South Mountain 6, Salt Lake 5: SLCC suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the first game of the day's doubleheader.
Entering the bottom of the seventh inning, the Bruins held a 5-2 lead but then surrendered four runs to South Mountain, with two on HBP's. SLCC had built an impressive lead earlier, stringing together timely hits to take an advantage. Notable at-bats included
Jalen Seward hitting a two-run double in the fourth inning, and
Chip Beck posting a two-out RBI single in the third inning.
South Mountain 5, Salt Lake 3: South Mountain built a strong lead in the final game of the series, a lead SLCC could never overcome.
SMCC jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter, taking a strong advantage. SLCC was scoreless until the sixth inning, with
Daniel Gonzalez hitting a three-run home run to get the team back into the game. Unfortunately, Salt Lake's rally came up short as the Bruins loaded the bases in the seventh inning but couldn't score.
