No. 11 SLCC Baseball drops season openers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 27, 2023) – The No. 11 Salt Lake Community College Baseball team had its difficulties in its season opener Friday, falling in a double-header sweep over South Mountain Community College.
 
SLCC posted losses of 5-0 and 11-0 against South Mountain at Pine View High School in St. George. The Bruins will open with a mark of 0-2, opening a schedule that will stretch into May.
 
Salt Lake and South Mountain will play another doubleheader Saturday.
 
South Mountain 5, Salt Lake 0: SLCC was unable to capitalize with runners in scoring position in the season opener.
 
With Dax Purser starting the mound, the Bruins were sharp early but stranded multiple baserunners. South Mountain scored four runs in the fourth inning and SLCC was never to capitalize, in spite of having runners in scoring position throughout the game, including loading the bases in the sixth inning. 
 
South Mountain 11, Salt Lake 0: SLCC fell behind early and never recovered in the run-rule loss.  

Highlights in the game for Salt Lake included Dax Swenson hitting a triple in the third inning. The Bruins stranded four runners in the game.
