Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 14, 2022) – Seasons of building and refining have led to this day for the No. 11 Salt Lake Community College Baseball team.
Â
SLCC worked hard all throughout the offseason to prepare for a banner 2022 season, one that would be filled with celebrations of titles and tournament victories. The Bruins claimed their second title of the season Saturday, adding the distinction of 'Region 18 champion' to their outstanding season with a 19-2 win over Southern Idaho in the Region 18 championship game.Â
Â
In one of their most dominant performances of the season, the Bruins jump-started their momentum in the first inning with a
Dalton Hodge two-run home run. Salt Lake took a 9-0 lead after the third inning, then added to the mark with another Hodge solo home run in the fourth inning. Hodge later hit a two-run single in the sixth inning.
Â
A sophomore from West Jordan, Hodge went 5-of-6 at the plate and finished with 6 RBI's in the win. Other notable SLCC performers included
Karson Bodily (3-of-5),
Braden Winget (2-of-4) and
Jaxon Weatherly (2-of-4).
Daxton Purser earned the victory on the mound, finishing with 11 strikeouts and surrendering just 3 hits in 6 innings of work. Â
Â
Salt Lake will now await word on next week's NJCAA West District Championships, looking to add more titles to its impressive 2022 resume. Both SLCC and Southern Idaho are Region 18's qualifiers into the tournament. Â
