TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 24, 2022) – The No. 1 Salt Lake Community College Men's Basketball team owned the Scenic West Athletic Conference throughout the regular season, posting a mark of 18-1 in the league schedule.
In response to the dominant season, SLCC powered to a strong place in the All-Region 18 awards, which were released during the Region 18 quarterfinals Thursday. SLCC's
Jordan Brinson was named the league's 'Most-Valuable-Player', while Bruins coach
Kyle Taylor earned 'Coach-of-the-Year' honors.
A native of Inglewood, Calif., Brinson averaged 13.8 points a game during the season, scoring a season-high 29 points in a win over Southern Nevada earlier this season. Taylor led Salt Lake to his second Scenic West regular-season title in three seasons, powering to a 28-0 start to the season prior to entering the postseason with a mark of 29-1.
The All-Region 18 First Team included: Brinson,
Doctor Bradley, and
Quincy McGriff (Salt Lake); Drake Allen and Wyatt Lowell (Snow); Taelon Martin (Southern Idaho); Kevin Bethel (USU Eastern); and Dominique Ford (Southern Nevada). All-Region 18 Second Team honorees were:
Chase Adams (Salt Lake); Hagen Wright (Snow); Robert Whaley (Southern Idaho); Kurt Wegscheider (USU Eastern); Darren Jones (Southern Nevada); Trevson Cason (Colorado Northwestern); and Lamonte Evans (Community Christian).
Players who earned All-Region 18 Honorable Mention honors were:
Jackson Last (Salt Lake); Marcellious Lockett (Southern Idaho); Chase Potter (Snow); Payton Falslev (USU Eastern); Terrance Marigney (Southern Nevada); Nahsyah Bolar (Colorado Northwestern); and Deyonte Hill (Community Christian).
The Region 18 semifinals will be played on Friday inside the Lifetime Activities Center.
