TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 18, 2022) – The Fall 2022 season continues to be a banner year for the Salt Lake Community College Athletic Department.

SLCC now has multiple teams ranked at No. 1 in the latest NJCAA polls, which were released Monday. Both the SLCC Men's Soccer and Volleyball programs are ranked at No. 1 in the recent polls, with the SLCC Men's Soccer program moving to 10-0 after last weekend's matches. SLCC Volleyball is now 23-2 overall and undefeated in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.

The SLCC Women's Soccer program fell to No. 6 in the polls after a close loss at Snow College. The SLCC Men's-and-Women's Cross Country programs will learn their new place in the updated rankings when they are released Wednesday.

Cross Country: After another strong weekend running in California, the SLCC Cross Country programs will return to Utah to compete this weekend.

SLCC will run in the Utah Open on Saturday, facing off against some of the top teams in the Intermountain West. The Bruins will look to build on their recent performance at Santa Clara, which included the SLCC Women's program earned the team title.

Bruins coach Isaac Wood said his SLCC team is continuing to improve as the weeks go on.

"This week those who didn't race at Santa Clara will be racing at the University of Utah," he said. "I'm excited for them to have another crack at racing and to do it at home will be fantastic.

"We're excited with the upcoming postseason. The biggest thing we are doing are activities and practices that give confidence and provide proof of fitness for our pending national championships. Also, we focus on the process and on outcomes and we are still in the thick of our process and we will stay there until the season is over."

Men's Soccer: Salt Lake has steadily risen throughout the national rankings this year, now ranked at No. 1 in the latest NJCAA polls.

SLCC will host Truckee Meadows and No. 10 USU Eastern at home this weekend, hosting 'Sophomore Day' against USU Eastern. The Bruins are in line to host the upcoming Region 18 championships if they win the Scenic West regular-season title, and will clinch if they win both matches.

Volleyball: The Bruins continue to be the NJCAA's top-ranked team, continuing their time at the No. 1 perch after going undefeated last weekend.

Salt Lake downed nationally ranked Snow College and Southern Nevada at home last weekend, moving to 23-2 overall and 7-0 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play. The Bruins have just two weekends of league play remaining, with this week's lone match being played on Wednesday against Southern Idaho.

SLCC coach Shay Goulding Meurer said she is pleased with her team's continued progress.

"We need to expect (CSI) to come out strong," he said. "The biggest part of our game plan, however, will remain the same. We must take care of things on our side of the net. Our first goal is to win the serve and serve-receive part of the game.

"If anything, as coaches we recognize the preparation we have put in up to this point and are able to have shorter practices and time off as needed to keep our bodies and minds fresh."

Women's Soccer: Salt Lake lost a close road match last Saturday at Snow College, falling to No. 6 in the latest rankings.

The Bruins still have a lead in the Scenic West standings, holding a half-game lead over the Lady Badgers at 7-1 in the league matches compared to Snow's 7-1-1 record. Salt Lake is undefeated against both Truckee Meadows and USU Eastern this season, with victories in both matches leading to the Bruins holding the edge in the rights to host the upcoming Region 18 championships.
