Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 28, 2022) – The Salt Lake Community College Baseball team opened its 2022 season Friday, facing off against a nationally-competitive program in a neutral-site matchup.

Fortunately for SLCC, the Bruins showcased some early-season firepower as Salt Lake swept a pair of games from South Mountain Community College, earning a 9-1 win in game one and a 4-1 in game two. The wins place SLCC at 2-0 to start the season.

Salt Lake will finish the series with South Mountain in another doubleheader Saturday. The games will be played at Bonanza High School in Las Vegas.

Salt Lake 9, South Mountain 1: Spencer Jones pitched SLCC to a win in the 2022 season opener, allowing a trio of hits in four innings.Â

The Bruin offense had so many highlights for a season-opening game: a two-run
Braden Winget home run in the fifth inning, an RBI double by
Colton Easton, and an RBI double from
Travis Johnson.

Salt Lake 4, South Mountain 1: A strong performance on the mount by
Derik Eaquinto lifted the Bruins to a win in the second game of the doubleheader.

Eaquinto earned a victory for SLCC, throwing five innings of one-hit ball while striking out seven South Mountain batters. Salt Lake's offense also played a large role in the win as a
Karson Bodily solo home run in the third inning provided the lift SLCC needed.Â
