TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (July 5, 2021) - The Salt Lake Community College Athletic Department has made another addition from within this offseason.
Monday, SLCC Athletics announced
Cassie Ulrich as the new head coach of the women's soccer program, completing the process of having the men's-and-women's soccer programs operate as autonomous programs. The SLCC women's program, which finished as the national runner-up in the Spring 2021 season, was previously led by
Mark Davis, who will continue on as the men's coach.
SLCC Athletic Director
Kevin Dustin said the Ulrich hire is an easy move for the Bruins.
"I am excited to name Cassie as our head women's soccer coach," said Dustin, who led the administrative push to start soccer on the SLCC campus five years ago. Â "I am grateful to
Mark Davis for his five years leading both programs to an unprecedented level. His mentorship of Cassie was important to this transition."
Ulrich, who came to SLCC after a variety of playing and coaching experiences in the world of soccer, helped the Bruins to an NJCAA runner-up appearance in the Spring 2021 season. Additionally, she was part of Salt Lake earning a share of the Scenic West Athletic Conference regular-season title and the Region 18 championship after the Spring 2021 conference season.
Ulrich said she is excited for this opportunity.
"I'm honored to have been selected as the next head coach of the SLCC women's soccer team," she said. "This program is well-established and is positioned to be a top team in the NJCAA for years to come. I'm incredibly proud of the unprecedented success we had last season with such a great group. I can't wait to lead this group of young women and I know they're ready to get after it again."
When considering a list of nationally-recognized candidates, Dustin said Ulrich's experience with coaching, particularly in the SLCC program, made the difference.
"Cassie was born to coach soccer," he said. "Her commitment to the individual growth of young women was evident this past year, and she has a terrific background as a player, both collegiately and professionally. She has a diverse skill-set and a great soccer acumen. Her imprint on this past season, both men's and women's, cannot be overstated. I look forward to her selecting a staff and leading the program. She is the right person for this program and I am thrilled she agreed to take on this challenge."
SLCC finished at 15-2-1 overall after the Spring 2021 season, earning a NJCAA runner-up finish to No. 1 Tyler in the NJCAA National Tournament.Â
