Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 14, 2021) – Whatever the situation, however the means, the No. 20 Salt Lake Community College baseball team has proved its ability to overcome adversity throughout the 2021 season.
 
SLCC overcame odds in the final weekend of the regular-season to earn the Scenic West Athletic Conference crown, and the Bruins found another way to victory in a Region 18 tournament semifinal Thursday, coming from behind to earn a 9-6 win over Southern Idaho. The victory advances Salt Lake to Saturday's Region 18 championship game.
 
It was all Southern Idaho early in the win, with the Golden Eagles taking a 6-0 lead midway through the sixth inning. If the Bruins were searching for a spark, they found a bonfire in the bottom of the seventh inning as SLCC posted six runs in the frame to tie the game. The seventh-inning rally started with a Zachary Blaszak RBI groundout, continuing later with a Bruer Webster two-run single. Travis Johnson also added a two-run single later in the inning.
 
After tying the game, Salt Lake powered ahead with three runs in the eighth inning to take a lead it would never relinquish, with a Sean Keating RBI single giving the Bruins their first lead of the game at 7-6. Karson Bodily also hit a two-run single in the inning to give SLCC some much-needed insurance runs.
 
Bodily was a team-best 3-of-4 at the plate, while Keating went 3-of-5. Besides his timely hitting, Johnson contributed as a pitcher and picked up the win in relief, throwing 1.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts. Fynn Chester took a no-decision in the start.
 
Salt Lake will play at 12:00 p.m. in the Region 18 championship game on Saturday.
