SLCC Baseball routs USU Eastern in doubleheader sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 23, 2021) – The good times are rolling for the Salt Lake Community College baseball team right now, with the Bruins guaranteeing themselves another series win with a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep Friday.
 
SLCC downed in-state rival USU Eastern in a pair of games, earning victories of 7-1 and 11-7. Salt Lake is now 27-14 overall and 20-7 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play. The Bruins are now leading the SWAC standings, holding a slight edge over No. 18 Southern Nevada.
 
Salt Lake and USU Eastern will conclude their four-game series on Saturday.
 
Salt Lake 7, USU Eastern 1: Timely hits powered the Bruins to a game-one victory.
 
Trailing 1-0 in the third inning, SLCC's Kurtis Hansen hit a solo home run to tie the game. Braden Winget gave the Bruins a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning thanks to a two-run home run, while Chase Peterson added a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Sean Keating added an two-run single that was an exclamation point in the sixth inning.
 
Peterson and Hansen both went 2-of-3 at the plate to lead Salt Lake. Jake Wilson earned the pitching victory, throwing 4.1 innings and striking out six USU Eastern batters.
 
Salt Lake 11, USU Eastern 7: Power-at-the-plate helped the Bruins roll to a doubleheader-sweeping victory.
 
Salt Lake again utilized home runs to earn the victory, with Sean Keating hitting a critical two-run home run in the seventh inning to give SLCC some much-needed breathing space. Eli Norman also added a home run in the frame.
 
Keating tied the game at 5-5 in the third inning on an RBI triple, while Braden Winget hit an RBI single to give Salt Lake the lead for good. SLCC posted 11 hits in the win.
 
Keating was 3-of-3 at the plate to lead Salt Lake, while Karson Bodily was 3-of-5. Breck Eichelberger finished off the pitching victory, striking out six batters in six innings.
