Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 30, 2021) - The opening day of the 2021 season was a tough one for the Salt Lake Community College baseball team, with the Bruins being swept by a pair of Scenic West Athletic Conference foes.
SLCC lost a 4-3 decision to the College of Southern Idaho to start the day, with a 19-5 loss to No. 20 Southern Nevada coming in the afternoon. Both games were non-conference games.
Salt Lake will close the weekend road trip to Las Vegas by playing both Southern Idaho and Southern Nevada again on Sunday.
Southern Idaho 4, Salt Lake 3: A late lead evaporated for the Bruins in the season's opening game.
Salt Lake led 3-1 against Southern Idaho after the sixth inning before allowing a trio of CSI runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Bruins got on the board in the second inning with a
Travis Johnson RBI double, followed up with
Sean Keating hitting two RBI singles in the fourth and sixth innings to give SLCC a 3-1 lead. Keating finished 3-of-4 to lead Salt Lake.
Southern Nevada 19, Salt Lake 5: A strong start did little to help Salt Lake as nationally-ranked Southern Nevada powered to the victory.
SLCC held an early 2-0 lead after the first inning, scoring on a two-run
Sean Keating home run. However, CSN posted eight runs in the next three innings to power to an advantage they would never look back from.
Jake Herman hit a solo home run for the Bruins in the sixth inning, while
John Taylor and Chase Peters both hit RBI singles in the eighth inning.
Herman was 3-for-3 at the plate in the loss.Â
