TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (August 6, 2020) - The recruiting process continues on for the Salt Lake Community College men's basketball team.
Thursday, the Bruins announced the signing of an NCAA transfer for the 2020-21 season, with the release that Detroit Mercy transfer Sam Hofman will sign with Salt Lake. Hofman, who originally hails from Belgium, will play as a forward for SLCC next season.
Bruins coach
Kyle Taylor said Hofman has the tools to be a solid contributor for Salt Lake next season.
"I'm pumped that Sam has chosen to come to Salt Lake," he said. "Sam is a multi-dimensional forward who can play multiple positions and will give us a lot of flexibility both offensively and defensively in our schemes. He's a very good three-point shooter who can stretch the floor, play terrific off-ball defense, take charges and play incredibly hard.  Sam has a ton of experience internationally and had a solid freshmen season at the NCAA Division-I level at Detroit Mercy as well. His experience and maturity will be a big benefit to us."
Hofman played in 21 games for Detroit Mercy as a freshman, starting 7 games. His international playing resume is impressive, with experience playing for the Belgian U16, U18 and U20 national teams. His program won the gold medal in the U18 European Championships 3-on-3 competition.Â
The Brussels, Belgium native said Salt Lake provided the perfect fit for him and his playing development.
"SLCC just felt like the right fit for me," Hofman said. "With Coach Taylor's vision of player development, and his mentality and history of winning, it felt like a good match. Salt Lake also has great facilities and the fact that there's an NBA G-League team sharing the facility with us was also very appealing to me."Â
Salt Lake finished the 2019-20 season going 29-4 overall, posting a record of 12-0 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play. The Bruins were slotted as the No. 4 overall seed in the NJCAA National Tournament, which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Â
