Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (February 8, 2020) - It was a successful Saturday for the Salt Lake Community College baseball team.
The Bruins, playing in the 'Zinger Bat Invitational' in Phoenix, went 2-0 on the day with wins over South Mountain Community College and Central Arizona. The day's success lifts Salt Lake's overall record to 5-2.
Salt Lake will play in the championship game of the tourney tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. The opponent will be decided on Saturday evening.
Salt Lake 10, South Mountain 4: The Bruins started strong and then powered to an impressive win.
SLCC took an early 1-0 lead before falling behind to SMCC 4-1 in the second inning. Salt Lake added a run in the fourth inning but trailed 4-2 entering the eighth inning. From there, the Bruins scored three runs in the eighth inning to take a 5-4 lead, eventually scoring five runs in the ninth inning to put the game out of reach.
Cade Perkins and
Sean Keating both had doubles and a pair of RBI's.
Salt Lake 9, Central Arizona 2: SLCC earned a victory in the tournament semifinal, powering past one of the nation's strongest programs.
Cole Gambill hit a two-run home run in the game, helping the Bruins to an early 4-0 lead after the fifth inning. Salt Lake stretched the lead as high as 6-0 after the seventh inning, walking to the victory against the defending NJCAA champions. Keating also hit a double in the game, with two RBI's.Â
